Nebraska Says: Bikers, You Still Need Helmets

By Jason Bottlinger on April 30, 2018

Motorcycle helmet laws have always been a highly debated and controversial issue, and both sides have very strong opinions. On one hand, helmets provide a common-sense shield that helps prevent serious head trauma and death. On the other hand, many (even a high percentage of those who do wear helmets) feel it is a freedom-of-choice issue, and that the law should not require anyone to wear a helmet. These bikers are quite adamant about this freedom, and will probably forever be fighting for their right to breeze down the freeway at 80 miles per hour with nothing but the wind in their hair.

By Jason Bottlinger on March 24, 2018

Truck on freeway

Being a trucker remains one of the most dangerous jobs in the U.S., and the highest number of occupational fatalities each year, by a wide margin, come from transportation accidents. With this in mind, truckers and others who work on the road need to be more careful than ever before.

Blowing the Whistle on Medicaid Fraud Can Save Lives!

By Jason Bottlinger on March 14, 2018

Medicaid is a massive government program that provides coverage to millions of low-income and vulnerable patients every year. With any program so large, however, unscrupulous companies take their chances at filing overinflated or blatantly false bills.

An egregious example of this was Kool Smiles, a national children’s dental chain. According to the U.S. Justice Department, Kool Smiles was performing unnecessary procedures—tooth extractions, root canals, or pretend root canals—on their young patients and billing Medicaid. In all, the chain was found to have submitted false claims in 17 states, and ordered to pay back $24 million.

Safe Driving Tips for Winter Weather

By Jason Bottlinger on February 5, 2018

It’s no secret that winter hits Nebraska hard, and those conditions can make for treacherous roads and hazardous driving. With a little caution and preparation, you can reduce your chances of a collision and keep yourself safe on the road.

That said, always remember: sometimes it’s just not worth going outside. If there are serious whiteout conditions or a blizzard, stay home. Make sure you have enough food and other supplies before a big winter storm hits, so you can wait it out if the weather is really bad. But if you have to venture out, please:
