Knee Injuries Are Serious

Knee injuries are an extremely serious matter that can cause both short and long-term implications. They are most commonly caused by slip and fall accidents in dangerous areas, car or pedestrian accidents, or on worksites. They can be debilitating and result in both physical and financial impacts.

If you have suffered a knee injury due to someone else’s negligence, then you could be eligible to claim compensation. To help guide you through this process, call Bottlinger Law L.L.C. at (402) 505-8234 to speak to an attorney who can assist you with the claims process.

What Types of Knee Injuries Can Occur?

Several different types of knee injuries can be sustained, each causing a significant degree of discomfort and disability.

Kneecap Dislocation

A dislocated kneecap occurs when the bones of the knee pop out of place, causing pain and the inability to use the leg. A doctor may be able to pop the kneecap back into its correct place, however, this does not always work. Some cases require physical therapy or even surgery to ensure correct healing and to allow for the restoration of full use of the knee.

Fractured Kneecap

Falls that result in someone landing on their knees can cause a kneecap fracture. This is an extremely serious form of injury that requires surgery to repair the kneecap. It can prevent the victim from being able to walk, and can have serious long-term implications.

Torn Meniscus

The meniscus is the rubbery cartilage that surrounds the knee joint and serves as a shock absorber. During a fall, if the foot stays in place while the knee twists, the meniscus can tear. This is quite a serious injury, and while some cases have been able to heal with physical therapy only, surgery is usually needed to properly repair the cartilage.

Muscle and Tendon Sprain

This is the most common type of knee injury caused by a slip and fall. If the ligament is stretched beyond its capabilities, it can sprain and cause bruising, swelling, and pain. Depending on the severity of the sprain, physical therapy may suffice for treatment, however, it may need to be repaired with surgery.

What Are the Signs of Knee Injuries?

If you have suffered an accident, there are several signs you can look out for that may indicate a knee injury.

Some signs to look out for are:

  • Difficulty moving and bending the knee
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Problems walking or putting weight on your leg
  • Numbness
  • Severe pain

Remember that even if there is a small degree of pain, the knee injury may be more severe than it seems, and it is important to get it checked out. A knee injury can be very debilitating as your knees take a considerable amount of weight when you walk, and run. Knees are key to the proper function of your legs and thus performing everyday activities such as walking, running, and driving. They are also home to sensitive ligaments, and can cause extreme amounts of pain that can leave you unable to carry out everyday tasks.

What Type of Compensation Can I Get?

If you have suffered a knee injury as the result of someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation. This could be a payout for lost wages due to your inability to walk, cover for past and future medical bills, damages for any mental and physical pain that may have been caused, and damages for the inability to keep up with your household tasks.

If you have suffered a knee injury, you deserve compensation. Here at Bottlinger Law L.L.C. We strongly believe that victims of accidents should receive the compensation they deserve.
